Transvaginal mesh is a product for patients who have stress urinary incontinence and pelvic organ prolapse, a medical condition where dropping of the bladder, urethra, cervix, and rectum occur as a result in loss of normal support of the vagina. Currently, there are many transvaginal mesh that are reported to be cause serious injuries including including Bard, which manufactures Avaulta, and Ethicon, which manufactures Gynecare Prolift.

 

Despite its intended use, the Bard Avaulta Mesh has caused serious complications such as infections, bladder problems and perforation of the bladder, bowel, and blood vessels. Treatment of these complications may require surgery, drainage of hematomas or abscesses, and blood transfusions.
