Reglan (metoclopramide) is a prokinetic agent. It is manufactured by UCB Pharmacuetical Company.  It is prescribed for diabetic gastroparesis, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), prevntion and/or treatment of nausea and vomiting, and stimulation of gastric emptying of barium for radiologic examination.  It was approved by the Food and Drug Administration (F.D.A.) in June of 1985.

 

Reglan is associated with the crippling and potnetially irreversible side effect of tardive dyskinesia.  Tardive dyskinesia is usually manifested with facial grimacing, jaw swinging, repetitive chewing, and tongue thrusting.
