Levitra (vardenafil) is a prescription drug used to tread erectile dysfunction. It is manufactured by Schering-Plough, and was FDA approved in 2003. It is similar in effect to Viagra® and Cialis®.
It has been associated with serious side effects including cardiac arrest and blindness. Blindness results from damage to the optic nerve cause by insufficient blood supply. Other serious side effects include stroke, temporary blurred vision, upset stomach, palpitations, and priapism (a prolonged erection). Men greater than 50 years of age who have heart disease, diabetes, high cholesterol, eye problems, or who smoke are at increased risk of blindness.
