Avandia (rosiglitazone) is an oral diabetic medication in the thiazolidinedione class of drugs. It is manufactured by GlaxoSmithKline. It is prescribed for type 2 diabetes, non-insulin dependent diabetes mellitus. Avandia was approved by the Food and Drug Administration (F.D.A.) in 1999.
In 2007, the F.D.A. issued a warning based on the research of the Cleveland Clinic, which suggested that Avandia may have detrimental effects on the cardiovascular system, especially the heart. As of February 2010, the F.D.A. has been conducting an ongoing review to determine if these effects are serious enough to warrant product withdrawal from the market.
Avandia’s side effects include:
- Worsening of congestive heart failure
- Increased cholesterol
- Weight gain
- Edema
- Headache
If you or a loved has been affected by the side effects of Avandia, you may be entitled to compensation. For a free legal consultation, please contact Kane Legal.
